Hi Moms,

Do any of you have a child with Amblyopia (Lazy Eye) or Strabismus that requires them to wear an eye patch? If so then go to my website at www.bjortandcompany.com to check out "The Eye Patch Kids" DVD to help encourage children to wear an eye patch. The puppets dance and sing while telling your child to put on their patch to be just like them. It is a must have for anyone struggling to patch a child.

My stepdaughter is 12 years old and going through many changes in her home life. In the last year her mother got a new boyfriend and moved him in and this did not go well with my stepdaughter. After just a few months she moved in with her father and myself, thing were going really good for awhile. Then her mom started a new job and my step daughter started staying at her house more and still things were going well, or so I thought. We learned only yesterday that my stepdaughter has been throwing tantrums at her mothers house, hitting and yelling at her mom and the boyfriend. The worst part of it is we were told that she goes into her room and scratches herself and hits herself. I think this is to get her moms attention back from the boyfriend, but I also worry that it may lead to worse behavior such as cutting. Keep in mind that I am just the stepmother and can't get me opinion across, but I really need some advice!!

Hi Ladies!

It's been a long time since I last posted, but the time has come for me to give you another heads up. The Moms Talk boards will be migrating to the vBulletin system that already exists for the rest of the community. This format is going to be retired.

I know that on one hand, it might not be a welcomed change, but on the other hand, it will provide you with additional security (ability to form private groups) and a resolution to current glitches (No more 40 character rule, and you will be able to post urls without spaces). You will also be integrated into the message board community and more able to participate in upcoming contests and programs aimed at increasing camaraderie and excitement throughout the message boards.

I don't have an actual date for the final migration. I do know that these posts here will not be deleted. If at all possible, they will migrate to the new board in their current state. At the very least, they will be archived and will be searchable. You can visit the new board and start posting at anytime:
http://interact. iparenting. com/boards/forumdisplay. php?f=6690 (There are no spaces in this url, but in order to post this, I had to add a space after each period. Please remove the spaces before you attempt to use the url.)

If you need any assistance at all, please email me.

I have a 17 yr old young son. He has been diagnosed with BiPolar Mania and ADHD with a few other thrown in. He is in a lot of trouble right now and we are involved in the mental health court right now because of it. What I want to know is, is there anyone out there that is having or had the same trouble with their child. I am being ordered to give him Depokote for this, but when I give it to him, he becomes VERY uncontrolable, I mean, EXTREMELY troublesome. He screams at me, kusses me out, throws things at everyone in the family. He will start HUGE fights with my husband, his step-father and when he does this, he will look at me to settle it, he puts me in the middle. I just had surgery w/some complications and he has taken full advantage of the fact that I am not supposed to do much right now as not to pop open the stitches on my liver. He refuses to do chores, he says that they are womens work, he goes into his sisters rooms, gets on his older sisters computer and destroys, things on it or brings up things that are EXTREMELY unapropriate for anyone. I tell the courts or anyone that is supposed to be helping us right now and they tell me that it is all my fault, or that he has issues with me or that I need to cooperate with the people that the court set us up with, which I am doing, I even asked all the people that are supposed to behelping me with him and they say that I could not be more cooporative. How do I alk to him and how do I talk with the court so they will listen to me. I am going to record some of his behavior and me giving him his meds on a camcorder, do you think that will help me or hurt me? please contact me back on this. I am at my complete wits ends with this and him. I am ready to kick him out when he turns 18, I really do not want to do that, but I am so very tired right now.

My daughter 15 is cutting herself. It has happened 2 times after an argument with her dad. She has told me about the incidents and that she does it in anger because he will not listen to what she has to say.She is doing it to "let" out her anger and emotions. We are divorced and she spends 75% of her time with dad and step mom.
any advice??

Do you have a 7-11 year-old child? Does your child have an interesting story to tell? A wonderful imagination? A unique view of life? Whether your child is shy or outgoing, funny or serious, stubborn or cooperative… we’d love to learn more about them!!! TLC and BBC are looking for children of all backgrounds and personalities from across the U.S. to take part in an extraordinary new television program. This innovative documentary series aims to capture American life through the eyes of 7-11 year-olds who film video diaries of their lives for approximately three months. We train the kids to use the camera and then give them the freedom to decide what to film and what to discuss! If interested in making a home video application or just in learning more, please call our hotline 212.974.9050, x221 or email us at mylifeasachild@bbcnyproduction.com. Thanks!

I just returned from a meeting with the GT teacher at my First grader's school.I was told they were using "collaboration" as a way to teach the 5 gifted students in her class. I guess what bothers me is that non-gifted students are included in this special instruction time which can sometimes include 10 children. It seems to me that it is taking away from my child's education. I want her to reach her full potential and feel that she may be held back by the other students. Also doesn't the school get federal funding to run the gifted program and therefore, the GT resources should only be used on the gifted students? Please help me to understand this!!!

I have a six year old son who likes to act like his friends, depending on which one he is playing with. It's frusterating for my husband and I because he takes on such a close identity to who ever he acts like that I feel like I don't know my son. I'm not sure if he feels comfrtable with who he is or if this behavior my be a sign of insecurity and lack of self confidence? Is this normal? How do I talk to him about this without drawing to much attention to it. It seems like he acts up more when I say who is acting like. He seems to pick out friends that you don't want him to act like as well. Please give me some good advice.
thanks!

To Beth re: your 6/17 posting looking for info on diet therapies for PDD/NOS -- we took our son off of dairy, to eliminate casein, and it seemed to help somewhat. Gluten and/or casein-free diets can be pretty big lifestyle changes, however, and shouldn't be undertaken lightly. About.com has a great autism site and I read it regularly; lots of news and lots of interesting links to other sites as well. Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has a child with Amblyopia (lazy eye). I have a five year old son who wears glasses and an eye patch for three hours a day for it. I made him a DVD called "The Eye Patch Kids". He loves it. I wanted to make it available to anyone else out there dealing with the same difficult issue of patching. See www.bjortandcompany.com for more information.

Thanks,
Kelly Harmsen

I homeschool my 7 yr old son, and he just took the CAT. Everyone has always thought he was good in math but that was his lowest score-still 2 yrs above grade level. I have always felt he was stronger in language arts and science. He scored college level in reading comprehension and senior in high school in science. I was always strong in LA and science. I have to question if that was the difference in his scores. By the way we do more math than anything.

Is there any private school in the US catering solely to the needs of genius children?

Do any balance academics, art, music and recreational sports (coordination activities) along with community service as social outlets?

I was wondering if any of the parents here have ever had to confront the issue of masturbation with their children. I walked into my 3 year old son's bedroom near his bedtime and found him lieing on the his stomach and rocking his waste over a fist. He quickly jumped off of his hands though when he heard me enter the room. Perhaps he was embarrassed. My husband says he has caught him doing that too. Is this a normal activity, and should I be concerned?

I have a 10 year old who got in trouble in school for insensitivity to a special needs child. This is very upsetting to me. I am in search of a good book that will accompany my lecture on sensitivity to mental and/or physical handicaps in peers.

Please email me your suggestions.
